FAQs

What is virtual primary care?

Virtual primary care gives you convenient facetime with a board-certified primary care physician through video visits using your mobile device or a computer with a webcam.

We’ve developed this service to make it easier for patients to regularly see their doctor, which can be especially beneficial for those managing chronic conditions or with a schedule that makes in person care difficult. Our holistic model supports all your primary medical needs, including seamless in-person physical examinations, lab testing, imaging and urgent care.

Am I eligible to be a Virtual Primary Care patient?

You are eligible if:

  • You are a new primary care patient
  • You are not a Monarch patient
  • And you are in the state of California

Virtual Primary Care is only available to new primary care patients. If you are already a patient of one of our in-clinic providers, please continue to make your appointment by calling the clinic (949) 452-7699.

Virtual Primary Care providers are not contracted with Monarch. We apologize for the inconvenience, but Monarch patients can still make a primary care visit appointment by calling the clinic (949) 452-7699.

How is it different from other telemedicine offerings at Saddleback?

Your Virtual Primary Care physicians will only see you virtually, through video visits and secure messaging. And while you won’t see your primary care provider in the clinic, you will receive all the benefits of being a Saddleback Family and Urgent Care patient—including the ability to walk in for urgent care services seven days a week. Together, your virtual primary care physician and in-person providers function as one integrated medical team and maintain the same medical record.

How does virtual primary care work?

On your first visit, you’ll establish care with your primary care doctor. You can set baselines and discuss your health goals and any concerns you have. You can then easily schedule appointments online and message your doctor through our patient portal.

To get started, book your appointment online. It only takes a few minutes. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the clinic: (949) 316-1770

Why is it considered concierge-style care?

When you need care, you’ll work with a Healthful care navigator that can schedule your appointments with your doctor and serve as your guide. Your navigator can help you follow your personalized care plans, schedule in-network follow-up and specialist visits, and connect you with appropriate community resources.

This service is brought to you in collaboration with Healthful.

What happens when I need hands-on care?

We can directly order any labs or tests needed without triggering additional visits. And if a hands-on doctor visit is needed, we will arrange for a timely urgent care or medical visit in our clinic in Mission Viejo. We work as a collective team and share one medical record to ensure a seamless experience.

What if I need care after hours?

We find that Saddleback Family and Urgent Care provides the flexibility most patients need. Our clinic welcomes walk-ins from our patients seven days a week, with evening appointments and same-day reservations.

When urgent late-night medical issues arise, we refer out to On Duty® for trusted virtual urgent care.

Is it secure and private?

Yes. We take your privacy seriously, so every video visit is completely confidential. On Duty uses secure technology that exceeds national standards to ensure your health records are secure.

Is it as effective as traditional primary care?

We believe primary care is best delivered on a consistent ongoing basis. This is much more important than being physically present. That’s not to say we don’t occasionally need to check you physically—which is why our service offers hybrid care for checkups and urgent care. We can also order labs, prescriptions, and just about anything a traditional PCP can do.

What does it cost?

We are happy to bill your insurance, as we would in the clinic.* If you are uninsured, or would like to pay out of pocket, we offer a discounted rate of $50 for your first visit.

This does not include any labs or in-clinic tests. Your navigator will then discuss your ongoing care plan and associated costs with you.

*Monarch patients are not eligible to use this service at this time.
